The India Song House

This is the story of the beautiful Heritage building of Mysore . it was built in the early 1900's on land gifted by the maharajas to some of the purohits , a railway engineer from the same family inherited it and grew most of the fruit bearing trees and lived a life of solitude, he was apparently known as the solitary man across the lake and ontikoppal then was on the outskirts of town . The house was bought at some point around the mid eighties by a well known family dealing with incense and it was nurtured as a very special house by them, it was around 2005 that the house got its name " The India Song House " when a Portuguese pair named Joao and Patricia made it a place serving amazing food and creating a wonderful vibe , this house became a haven for yoga students from around the world . after they left India the house was rented by Aaliya and Bruno another art loving couple as a crib for themselves and their children, due to the maintenance issues they decided to move out of the house and for sometime it lay vacant, it was then that I took up this place and started another run as a place of culture and fun, I feel responsible and sorry for the fact that when i did open up the gates to people it also got in land sharks into the place who looked at the place for its real estate value.

today nearly six months later since i left the place after it was sold , the house is close to being razed down to make way for some apartment block. this is the the story of not just this heritage beauty but a lot of other amazing beauties in mysore and India. Is this really development ?

  1. Hi Shoaib, thank's for sharing it!
How did you find this watercolor?, is it yours? I would love to have a larger file of this picture, since I put so much energy recovering that house.
    Best regards
