Contemporary Cows at Cross- Roads

There is a belief in our Indian minds about the cow being the symbol of providing.
Our romance with the cows started with the dawn of our civilisation,
The Vedas took this symbolism further, Krishna’s love and enchantment with them took this belief even deeper.

Where is the cow today in the Indian context though? Indians give way to this majestic being on our daily grind through thick and thin; some worshipping the very path that it walks on. Gao-muthra (cow-urine) has healed us through ages. But really is the cow today the same as yesterday?

We are in a capitalistic consumerist age where we want to milk everything as much as possible. Exotic high yielding breeds are exterminating the traditional Nandi's, the bulls are being exterminated as invitro-fertilisation does the " job" of a hundred bulls.

Bharath enters into this landscape and unravels the "Kamadhenu "of our times. He makes us travel through fields and fairs, roads and mentality. His paintings reflect the way we treat ourselves too. His canvas is simple yet beautifully deep.
